Why veterinary ultrasound

Ultrasound answers questions radiography can’t — real-time, radiation-free views of organs, fluid and motion that guide decisions during the same visit.

Real-time & radiation-free

See organs, fluid and blood flow live, with no ionising radiation — ideal for rapid assessment and repeat scans.

Point-of-care ready

Fast FAST/TFAST scans for free fluid and triage in minutes, right at the table.

Broad clinical range

Abdominal, cardiac (echo), reproductive and soft-tissue imaging with the appropriate probe set.

How it works

A non-invasive scanning workflow from probe to a stored study.

  • Prepare. Clip/prep the area and apply coupling gel for good contact.
  • Select the probe. Choose the transducer and preset for the region (abdomen, cardiac, etc.).
  • Scan in real time. Sweep the area and observe live imaging; adjust depth and gain as needed.
  • Capture. Freeze, measure and save key frames and clips.
  • Store to the record. Save the study to the patient file in NXVET (see below).

Where clinics use it

Abdominal work-ups

Assess liver, kidneys, bladder, spleen, GI and free fluid.

Emergency FAST / TFAST

Rapid detection of free fluid in trauma and unstable patients.

Cardiology (echo)

Structural and functional cardiac assessment with a cardiac probe.

Reproduction

Pregnancy confirmation and monitoring.

Guided procedures

Ultrasound-guided aspirates and sampling.

Recheck & monitoring

Radiation-free repeat imaging to follow a condition over time.

Capabilities

Real-time B-mode veterinary ultrasound with Doppler and multi-probe support (configuration by model).

Modes B-mode, M-mode and Doppler (per configuration)
Probes Convex, linear and cardiac transducers (per configuration)
Applications Abdominal, cardiac, reproductive, soft-tissue, POC FAST/TFAST
Form factor Cart-based or portable options
Output On-screen imaging, measurements, image/clip export

Model, probe options and full specifications are confirmed per manufacturer at time of order. Contact us for the configuration available in your region.

Ultrasound vs. X-ray

  Ultrasound Radiography (X-ray)
What it shows Soft tissue, fluid, motion & flow Bone & overall structure
Radiation None Ionising radiation
Real-time Yes — live imaging Static images
Best role Organs, echo, guided sampling Skeleton, thorax overview

Ultrasound and radiography are complementary — most work-ups use both.

Works with the NXVET cloud

Studies on the chart — not siloed on the machine.

  • Store ultrasound images and clips on the patient record in NXVET.
  • Compare studies across visits to follow a condition.
  • Share findings with owners and referral partners from one record.
  • Build a connected imaging + diagnostics stack alongside your other NX-supplied equipment.

Frequently asked questions

What can ultrasound assess?
Abdominal organs, free fluid, cardiac structure and function (echo), reproduction and soft-tissue, plus point-of-care FAST/TFAST — all in real time without radiation.
Is it portable?
Both cart-based and portable options exist; the available form factor is confirmed per model at time of order.
Which probes are included?
Convex, linear and cardiac transducers are available depending on configuration. Contact us for the probe set available in your region.
Does it replace X-ray?
No — they are complementary. Ultrasound shows soft tissue, fluid and motion; radiography shows the skeleton and overall structure. Most work-ups use both.
Can studies go into our records?
Yes — images and clips can be stored on the patient record in the NXVET cloud for review, comparison and sharing.
